Step 4:

If you are adding food coloring, glitter, or confetti, stir the glitter into the glue mixture. Add contact lens solution to the glue mixture and stir well.

(Note: Regular glue will require less contact lens solution than glitter glue. Add the contact lens solution slowly, mixing between additions, and add only enough to bring the glue together into a soft ball.)

Here's a beach-inspired craft to make with your kids this summer! This Ocean slime will remind your kids of the serene blue waters and crystal ocean waves.

Materials

  • Clear glue - preferably Elmer's
  • Water
  • Baking soda
  • Contact lens solution
  • Dye - blue and optionally other shades of blue
  • Glitter - silver colored
  • Plastic toy sea creatures

Tools

  • Mixing bowl
  • Scooper

Instructions

  1. Pour your clear glue into the mixing bowl. Make sure to pour every ounce of it.
  2. Add about 1/4 cup of water into the empty glue container and shake. This will wash up the remaining glue in the bottle. Pour the warm water into the mixing bowl and stir.
  3. Mix baking soda again, ensuring it is incorporated well into the mixture.
  4. Combine the silver glitter and food coloring in the glue mixture. Stir thoroughly to ensure that all of the glue is colored.
  5. Stir well as you add a bit of your contact lens solution.
  6. Take the slime out of your bowl, leaving the excess liquid in. Knead the slime-like bread dough so all the ingredients come together. You'll know when the slime is ready when it is no longer sticky to the touch.
  7. You can optionally add the plastic sea creature you have prepared. This makes the activity more fun and can help your kids learn about different sea creatures.

Notes

If you are using regular glue, you will need less of the contact lens solution compared to using glitter glue. Gradually mix in your contact lens solution and make sure to add enough to bring your glue together.
