How do you make a Pirate-Themed Craft?
Select different colored craft papers for the TP roll pirate craft. The template includes a hat, boots, head, beard, mustache, eye patch, skull sign, telescope, and a sword. You can select colored craft papers of your choice to cover the TP roll, which will be the pirate’s clothes. Trace and cut out the template pattern.
Attach the beard and mustache to the head cutout. Attach the small strip cutout along the top end of the hat cutout. Complete the skull sign by joining the bone cutouts crisscrosswise and then adding the skull in the middle of the bones.
Attach the skull sign to the hat pattern. Attach the eye and the eye patch to the head pattern. Use a Sharpie to draw the nose and mouth of the pirate figure.
Grab the empty TP roll and cover the bottom half of the roll with the paper; this will be the trouser of the pirate figure.
Cover the top half of the TP roll with another piece of paper. Attach the boots to the bottom side of the roll (attach them with the paper wrapped around the bottom side). Use a sharpie to trace a thin line from the bottom end and a cm below the top end of the bottom paper between the boots.
Attach the hat to the top side of the head pattern and then attach the head pattern to the top side of the TP roll.
Cut a small piece of cardstock paper (1 cm x 2 cm) and fold it in half. Attach either side of the half-fold with the TP roll pirate on the side. Keep the other half side of the fold facing towards the front side of the top TP roll craft.
Trace, cut out, and glue the patterns to craft the sword/telescope. Attach the sword/telescope to the cardstock paper on the side of the TP roll.
What are the benefits of making crafts with kids?
- Learning by Doing: Kids grasp a lot when they are engaged in activities. Toilet roll crafts or cardboard tube crafts allow them to understand shapes, colors, and textures hands-on. They also learn to follow instructions to complete a themed craft like a pirate toilet paper roll craft.
- Boosts Creativity: Crafts encourage kids to think creatively. Whether designing a pirate’s hat or deciding on the colors for a pirate flag, they learn to imagine and create, which is very important for their growth.
- Improves Motor Skills: Crafts often require kids to use their hands to cut, glue, and design, especially with fun ideas like making a pirate’s face or eye patch. This helps develop their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
- Encourages Self-Expression: Through pretend play and crafting, kids can express themselves. Choosing colors for the high seas or designing their pirate ship craft allows them to show their feelings and ideas.
- Promotes Patience and Focus: Crafting can be fun but requires concentration. Kids learn to focus on tasks and wait for their creations to take shape, teaching them patience.
- Enhances Problem-Solving Skills: Sometimes crafts don’t go as planned. When a pirate hat doesn’t fit on top of the toilet paper roll, kids learn to solve problems and make adjustments.
- Builds Confidence: Completing a craft gives kids a sense of achievement and builds their confidence.
- Encourages Bonding: Crafting is a great way for families to spend time together. It promotes bonding and teamwork.
- Fun Way to Learn: Crafts allow kids to learn new things in a fun way. They can explore different cultures, holidays, and even basic science concepts through themed crafts.
- Promotes Relaxation: Crafting can be very relaxing. It’s a peaceful activity that helps kids calm down and enjoy.

Instructions
- For the TP roll pirate craft, choose colored craft papers of your choice to cover the TP roll, which will serve as the pirate's clothing. To create the pirate's outfit, trace and cut out the template patterns onto the colored craft papers you've selected.
- To assemble your TP roll pirate craft, attach the beard and mustache to the head cutout using glue or double-sided tape.
- Then, affix the small strip cutout along the top end of the hat cutout to create the hat's band or trim. Complete the skull sign by joining the bone cutouts crisscrosswise to form an "X" shape, securing them with glue or tape, and then attaching the skull cutout to the center of the crossed bones.
- Affix the skull sign onto the hat pattern, ensuring a secure attachment. Then, the eye and eye patch are attached to the head pattern to complete the facial features. Utilize a Sharpie marker to outline and draw the pirate figure's nose and mouth, adding detail and character to the design.
- Take the empty TP roll and cover its bottom half with the paper, which will serve as the trousers of the pirate figure.
- Wrap another piece of paper around the top half of the TP roll to cover it completely. Attach the boots to the bottom side of the roll by affixing them to the paper wrapped around the bottom side. With a Sharpie, trace a thin line from the bottom end and approximately one centimeter below the top end of the bottom paper, creating a decorative detail between the boots.
- Attach the hat securely to the top of the head pattern. Then, affix the head pattern, along with the hat, to the upper side of the TP roll, ensuring a stable attachment.
- Trace the patterns onto craft paper, cut them out, and assemble them to create the sword or telescope. Once completed, affix the sword or telescope to the cardstock paper attached to the side of the TP roll.
