What is Lip Gloss Made Of?
I provide you with a comprehensive list of the materials used in the Kool-Aid Lip Gloss tutorial. However, if you want to know what you need to make your lip gloss, it’s made of simple ingredients. I’m using something as simple as coconut oil. I feel as though it’s an inexpensive way to make lip gloss.
You will also need some type of flavoring, like Kool-Aid. You may already have all of these ingredients at home. Homemade lip gloss is something that everyone should make at least once in their lifetime.
What Makes a Good Lip Gloss Base?
As I mentioned earlier, I am using coconut oil for this recipe, but other ingredients can also make a good lip gloss base. If you’re able to use castor oil, this is an ingredient that is said to give lip gloss a good shine. You will want to add mica and pigments to give it color. Here is a list of different kinds of butter that you can use as a lip gloss base to make this homemade lip balm.
- Mango butter
- Shea butter
- Cocoa butter
- Any butter blend
As long as you don’t have any reactions to a specific type of butter, you can play around with it to see what works best. You may be surprised as to what makes a good lip gloss base and what doesn’t.

Ingredients for Making Lip Gloss from Kool-Aid Packets
You can adjust the ingredients you need for lip gloss, but I wanted to touch on some of the ingredients I used in this recipe.
- Coconut oil – If you know anything about coconut oil, you know how amazing of an ingredient it is. Coconut oil is a natural ingredient that is 100% fat, which means you can use it as a solid or a liquid. If the coconut oil gets too hot, then it will melt. (You could substitute petroleum jelly if you don’t want to use coconut oil)
- Sugar – Often, sugar is added to lip gloss. It helps add a little sweetness. I use it in my recipe for Kool-Aid Lip Gloss. You don’t need a ton, just enough to add a hint of sweetness.
There are fundamental ingredients needed for making lip gloss. I think you’ll find this tutorial super easy and fun!
Is Kool-Aid Powder a Good Ingredient for Lip Gloss?
When I was putting this lip gloss tutorial together, I wanted to choose something simple. Most of my generation grew up on Kool-Aid, and it was a super popular drink. We’d have it on hot summer days, and it was a budget-friendly option.
Hey, if it makes a good glass of juice, then I was positive it would help make an amazing lip gloss. I love the color the Kool-Aid gives off, and it tastes great, too! If you have little ones who enjoy eating their lip gloss, then this may be a good option for you.
