How to Make the Bear Valentine’s Day Box Craft

This easy tutorial breaks everything down into simple steps, so the process stays fun and frustration-free.

Step 1: Prepare the Box

Start with an empty cereal box and cut it down to your desired size. This will become the base of your box.

Wrap the box completely with paper, making sure to cover the back of the box neatly. Use glue to secure the paper so the box securely holds together.

Step 2: Trace and Cut the Bear

Using the template, trace the main bear outline onto cardstock. Remember, the head and body are one piece, so you only need one large cutout for the bear itself.

Cut-out brown paper pieces for a bear's head and ears, plus two tan paper hearts and red scissors.

Carefully paper and cut around the outline and set it aside.

Step 3: Create the Face

Now for the personality. Add two googly eyes, attach the nose, and use a black marker or pen to draw the mouth just below the nose.

You can add freckles or details with a marker for extra charm.

Step 4: Attach the Bear to the Box

Center the bear cutout on the front of the box and adhere the paper using glue or adhesive dots. This instantly transforms the box into a bear box, giving it a classic teddy look.

Step 5: Attach the Belly and Paws to the Box

This step is what really brings the design together.

Two small tan paper circles with drawn lines and one tan paper semi-circle next to a black marker and red scissors.

Add the round belly directly to the front of the box—not just the bear cutout. The belly piece is attached to the box itself, so it looks like the bear is peeking over and holding onto the box, as shown in the picture.

Once the belly is in place, attach the paws and position them around the belly so they rest on top of it. This creates a layered look and helps create an adorable diy bear.

Step 6: Finish and Fill

If needed, create two sides and a front piece using two sides and a strip.

Add a strip to cover the front opening neatly.

Materials

  • Construction paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Black marker
  • Recycled box

Instructions

    1. Prepare the Box

Start with an empty cereal box and cut it down to the size you want for your card holder. Cover the box completely with construction paper or cardstock, making sure the back and edges are neatly wrapped. Glue everything in place so the box is sturdy and secure.

    2. Trace and Cut the Bear

Trace the bear shape onto cardstock, keeping the head and body as one large piece. Carefully cut out the shape and set it aside while you prepare the remaining pieces.

    3. Create the Face

Attach the eyes and nose to the bear’s face using glue. Use a black marker or pen to draw the mouth and add any small details, such as freckles or eyelashes, to give the bear personality.

    4. Attach the Bear to the Box

Center the bear cutout on the front of the wrapped box and glue it firmly in place. This step instantly turns the box into a bear and sets the base for the rest of the design.

    5. Add the Belly and Paws

Glue the round belly piece directly onto the front of the box, not just onto the bear cutout. Attach the paws on top of the belly so they look like the bear is holding onto the box, creating a layered and playful look.

    6. Finish and Fill

If needed, add side panels and a front strip to clean up the opening of the box. Once all pieces are dry, the Valentine’s Day box is ready to be filled with cards, notes, and treats.
