How to Make Edible Lemon Play Dough

Summer is here and I’m excited to share with you this recipe for How to make Edible Lemon Play Dough Recipe that is yellow and lemon flavored! It is super easy to make with not much clean-up time. With only two ingredients (plus sprinkles) and one bowl for mixing, it doesn’t get much easier.

You can shape this play dough into balls using an ice cream scoop or use food cutters for any other shape you may want. The kids are going to love this fun playdough craft activity!

How to make Edible Lemon Play Dough

Ingredients for ice cream play dough

Ingredients Needed:

1 tub Lemon frosting 

1 cup cornstarch

Colorful sprinkles

Ice Cream Scoop or Food Cutters

Add 1 full tub of Lemon frosting to a big mixing bowl

Combine with 1/2 cup of cornstarch and mix with a spatula, spoon, or hand mixer. Then add the remaining ½ cup of cornstarch one spoonful at a time and mix well.

Finish kneading the dough by hand until completely mixed. The play dough should be completely mixed and pliable but no longer sticky.

Make small bowls of play dough and form them into balls. Flatten the dough if using food cutters.

Use an ice cream scoop (or food cutters for different shapes) to form the dough. Scoop the dough out of the ice cream scoop.

Or if you use a food cutter, push the food cutter down, wiggle it a little bit to make a clean shape then twist it to separate the outer part of the dough.

Push the shape gently with your finger out of the food cutter.

Decorate with colorful sprinkles!

If your edible play dough crumbles or gets too tough, soften it with any type of oil. If the play dough gets sticky add a little cornstarch to soften. Discard after playtime is over. While this play dough is “edible” it is not meant to be eaten in large quantities!

Ice Cream Play Dough will be a hit as a summertime activity, fun kids party craft, or summertime boredem buster! It is quick, easy, and only requires two ingredients (plus Sprinkles)!

Materials

  • 1 Tub Lemon (or any flavor) Frosting
  • 1 Cup Cornstarch
  • Sprinkles

  • Ice Cream Scoop or Food Cutters
  • Mixing Bowl

Instructions

    1. Add 1 full tub of Lemon frosting to a big mixing bowl
    2. Combine with 1/2 cup of cornstarch and mix with a spatula, spoon or your hand mixer.
    3. Then add the remaining ½ cup of cornstarch one spoonful at a time and mix well.
    4. Finish kneading the dough by hand until completely mixed. The play dough should be completely mixed and pliable but no longer sticky.
    5. Make small bowls of play doh and flatten the dough or if you want it rounded, scoop it with an ice cream scoop.
    6. If using the food cutters, make shapes from the dough. After you push the food cutter down, wiggle it a little bit to make a clean shape then twist it to separate the outer part of the dough. Push the shape gently with your finger out of the food cutter.
    7. If using an ice cream scoop, form into balls after scooping out the dough. You can use Pam Cooking spray on the scoop to prevent the dough from sticking.
    8. Decorate with colorful sprinkles!

Notes

If your edible play dough crumbles or gets too tough, soften with any type of oil.
