Continue following the directions on the package and add boiling water followed by cold water.
Pour ½ cup of jello mixture into each small plastic cup or medium bowl.
Leftover Jell-O cups can be stored in the refrigerator for several days if covered and stored there.
How long does it take for jello to set?
It typically takes 4 hours for the jello to fully set.
PRO-TIP – Fridge Instructions:
We experimented and didn’t realize that if you put the gummy worms in the 5-ounce plastic cups right after you pour the jello into them, the gummy worms will dissolve from the warmth of the jello! This is a problem!!
As we experimented with this, we realized it’s important to refrigerate the jello for at least half an hour before adding the gummy worms.
After putting it in the fridge to chill for 1 hour, we put the worm candies in the middle of the cup. After waiting an hour, it was thick enough for the gummy worms not to sink to the bottom of the cup. So experiment with it – that’s what makes this dessert fun!
Add gummy worms to the green lime Jello when ready and chill for 4 hours.
Top each cup with whipped cream for a great cream filling.
Add a gummy worm and sanding sugar to finish off the top.
A full-size worm “crawling” out of the glass garnishes the dish, which already features gummy worms suspended in green jello.
Wrap the cups in plastic wrap or foil and put them in the fridge after they have set.
You can also try doing it by decorating little gummy bears who are sunbathing under colorful cocktail umbrellas.
Are Jell-o cups gluten-free?
Jello is not labeled as a gluten-free product, but the ingredients (gelatin, sugar, and other preservatives) are typically gluten-free. Jell-o products are made in facilities that make gluten-containing products.

- 1 package gummy worms
- Whipped cream

Notes
We discovered through some trial and error that placing the gummy worms in the cups right after pouring the jello causes them to dissolve due to the warmth—definitely not the result we wanted! To avoid this issue, we found it's best to refrigerate the jello for at least half an hour before adding the gummy worms. This way, the worms stay intact and look perfect in the cups!
