Supplies Needed to Make This 3D Mermaid Craft:
- Free Mermaid Template printed on cardstock paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Tape
- Thread
- Adult hands to help little hands
How to Make this Mermaid Papercraft:
Fold the underwater scene sheet (colored side outward) in half along the solid middle line. To make the fold crisp and sharp, use the flat end of your scissors or a butter knife to flatten it.
Cut along the dotted lines on each side of the rectangle. Only cut from the fold up to the end of each dotted line.
Fold and crease the rectangle shape upward along the other solid lines.
Now, fold the entire sheet inward. The rectangle will come out, forming even angles. Press down to fold the solid lines at the top and bottom of the rectangle. It will look like a small 3D shelf.
Fold the top of the sheet inward along the solid line to form a top “shelf.” To make the fold crisp and sharp, use the flat end of your scissors or a butter knife to flatten it.
Cut out the mermaid, seaweed, palm tree, and sea animals carefully, but it’s okay if they’re not the same! Your craft will still look great!
Apply glue to the front side of the rectangle and adhere the large seaweed to it. (see photos)
Next, cut a 10-12 inch length of thread. Tape one end of this thread to the back side of the seahorse. Tape the other end of the thread to the top of the “shelf,” adjusting the length so that the seahorse falls where you would like it to be.
Trim away any excess thread. Do this same thing to the starfish and fish, arranging the creatures as desired.
Fold the base of the palm tree along the solid line to form a stand. Glue this stand to the top of the scene, on the “shelf.”
Glue the sea turtle to the tree base. You may need to adjust the scene’s balance so that it stands upright.
Finally, fold the base of the mermaid along the solid line to form a stand.
