Materials You’ll Need

To get started, gather a few basic crafting supplies you likely already have at home or in your classroom. Here’s what you’ll need for this handprint craft:

Craft supplies including paper, paint, marker, glue stick, and scissors.

How to Make This Snowy Owl Handprint Craft

This step-by-step tutorial is simple enough for little hands, and older kids can complete it on their own with minimal guidance.

Whether you’re crafting at home or in the classroom, this project is just the right amount of creative and mess-free.

Step 1: Cut the Template

If you’re using our free printable template, go ahead and cut the template pieces.

If you’re working without a template, no problem! Simply draw a few circles, triangles, and feather shapes on construction paper.

Step 2: Create the Handprint

Trace your kid’s hand on white construction paper. This will become the main body of your owl. Once you print or sketch it, cut it out carefully.

Having a handprint as the body makes this a sweet keepsake craft—especially for toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary kids who grow way too fast.

Step 3: Add Feather Details

Use your black marker to add simple curve lines representing feathers. This gives your owl a little texture and makes the body look more fluffy and detailed.

Step 4: Make the Owl’s Eyes

Cut out two yellow circles with a slightly larger black circle on top—this creates those instantly recognizable owl’s eyes.

Step 6: Add the Beak and Feet

Cut out a small beak triangle and two little rounded feet. Attach them with glue under the eyes and at the bottom of the handprint.

Step 7: Final Touches

Let kids add extra personality—more feathers, a backdrop, or even another little owl for a set of baby owls. They can also create footprint art to go with it, or make a whole family of snowy owls for a fun display.
