This easy-to-make Fourth of July cupcake recipe is the perfect recipe to celebrate this holiday and your patriotism.

Ingredients

  • 1 box of french vanilla cake mix or white cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 C (1 stick) of softened unsalted sweet cream butter
  • 1 C whole milk
  • 1 TBSP pure vanilla bean paste
  • Red and Sky Blue gel food coloring
  • Frosting Ingredients:
  • 3 C unsalted sweet cream butter, softened
  • 5 C powder sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 3-5 TBSP heavy whipping cream
  • Red and blue gel food coloring
  • 3 C patriotic sprinkles
  • 3 bowl
  • medium star tip and pastry bag
  • Large cup to put the piping bag in
  • Medium ice cream scooper
  • 1 package of red white and blue glitter star cupcake toppers

Instructions

Directions for cupcakes:

Preheat oven to 350 and line the cupcake pan with the liners in a medium bowl.

Combine the cake mix, butter, milk, and vanilla bean paste and mix until combined.

The batter is divided into three bowls, one bowl and mixed in a few drops of red food coloring. Mix in a few drops of blue food coloring in the second bowl.

Scoop 1 TBSP of each color into the cupcake liners.

Repeat step 1 more time till the cupcake liners are ¾ full.

Bake in the oven for about 21 minutes.

Pull out and place on the side to cool.

Directions for the Frosting:

Using a standing mixer, combine all ingredients except the food coloring into the bowl and mix on medium speed.

Add another heavy whipping cream if your frosting starts looking like powdery rocks.

Mix until you see creamy stiff peaks.

Scoop ¼ C of frosting into each of the three bowls.

Add the red food dye into one bowl.

Add the blue food dye to the second bowl.

Leave the third bowl white.

Fit the star tip into the piping bag and place the bag inside the cup, pulling the bag over the cup's edge.

Scoop some red icing using a spoon and put it on 1/3 of the piping bag.

Repeat with the blue and white frosting.

Twist the top of the piping bag, squeeze the frosting down, and set aside.

Using the ice cream scooper, scoop some frosting and place it onto the top of the cupcake.

Pour sprinkles into a bowl.

Dip the top into the sprinkles using the piping bag, and pipe a small dollop of frosting. Place a star pick into the center of the frosting.
