These Jonah and the Whale finger puppets can help us illustrate the well-known biblical story that taught us the value of obedience, forgiveness, and God’s mercy and love.
The story starts with Jonah, a prophet sent by God to preach to the people of Nineveh, a city known for its wickedness. However, Jonah was reluctant to obey God’s commands and boarded a ship bound for Tarshish.
The Story of Jonah and The Whale
A great storm arose during the journey, and the ship was about to sink. The crew then realized that Jonah was the cause of the storm, and, at his request, they threw him overboard.
Miraculously, Jonah was then swallowed by a whale, which carried him to safety. While Jonah was inside the belly of the whale, he repented and prayed for God’s forgiveness. After three days and nights, the whale spat Jonah onto dry land.
After that, Jonah obeyed God’s command and preached to the people of Nineveh, warning them of God’s impending judgment. Much to Jonah’s surprise, the people of Nineveh repented and turned away from their sinful ways, and God showed them mercy.
Even though he was successful in his mission, Jonah was still unhappy and angry with God. Because of this, God then used a plant to teach Jonah a lesson about compassion and forgiveness, and Jonah ultimately came to see the error of his ways.
The lessons we can learn from the story of Jonah and the Whale are still relatable today. These printable paper puppets can interactively engage children to tell the biblical story.
