Much to Jonah’s surprise, the people of Nineveh repented and turned away from their sinful ways, and God showed them mercy. Even though he was successful in his mission, Jonah was still unhappy and angry with God. Because of this, God then used a plant to teach Jonah a lesson about compassion and forgiveness, and Jonah ultimately came to see the error of his ways.
