Where Does Scripture Describe the Armor of God?

The New Testament explains the Armor of God in this passage. Paul uses a soldier’s equipment to illustrate the resources given to believers.

This passage teaches believers to stand firm in the Lord and to prepare themselves through honesty, right living, peace, faith, salvation, the Word, and prayer.

This protection is spiritual rather than physical. Scripture is not telling young learners to fight other people. The lesson focuses on resisting lies, temptation, fear, discouragement, and other struggles while depending on the Lord.

What Are the Six Parts of the Armor of God?

The six items named in the passage are:

1. The belt of truth
2. The breastplate of righteousness
3. Feet prepared with the gospel of peace
4. The shield of faith
5. The helmet of salvation
6. The sword of the Spirit

Talking to the Lord follows the description in verse 18. Even without a specific object to represent it, its significance is emphasized throughout the teaching.

The Belt of Truth

“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist.” — Verse 14

A soldier’s waistpiece helped hold other equipment in place. This piece reminds believers to build their lives around what is true.

For young learners, this can include:

• Being honest
• Recognizing the difference between facts and lies
• Learning what Scripture teaches
• Remembering that the Word is trustworthy

Ask young learners how they can be peacemakers at home, at school, or with friends.

Their answers might include:

• Using gentle words
• Including someone who feels left out
• Apologizing when they hurt someone
• Forgiving others
• Helping solve disagreements peacefully
• Sharing the good news about Jesus

The Shield of Faith

“Take up the shield of faith.” — Ephesians 6:16

This item helped guard a soldier from attacks. Trusting the Lord helps believers remain steady when they encounter fear, doubt, temptation, or discouragement.

This does not mean pretending difficult circumstances do not exist. It means continuing to trust His character and promises through those circumstances.

While learners work on this page, invite them to write a short reminder inside it, such as:

The Helmet of Salvation

“Take the helmet of salvation.” — Ephesians 6:17

This headgear guarded a soldier’s head. It reminds believers to guard their thoughts and remember the hope they have through Jesus.

A young person may struggle with thoughts such as:

• I am all alone.
• I cannot do anything right.
• I am too afraid.
• Nobody cares about me.
• I will not be forgiven.
