What’s so special about Elf on the Shelf?
Known for its nightly mischief, the Elf on the Shelf became popular in 2005 after the book, The Elf on the Shelf, A Christmas Tradition was published.
The purpose of an Elf is to quietly watch over your family as they go about their day so that the Elf (which you pick out the name for your family Elf) can report their “naughty” or “nice” behavior to Santa. So the Elf can encourage your child to be on their best behavior during the Christmas season.
Honestly, some kids “might” think the elf is creepy as it watches your family, but other kids may enjoy the “tradition”. Parents may either love or despise the elf and the additional task of moving it around the house every night. But for whatever side you are on, Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas icon in our culture today.
