Who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance?

The original Pledge to the flag was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy. The pledge was originally published in a children’s magazine with the intention of being recited at the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival in America.

The words of the pledge were later modified by Congress, and it wasn’t until 1942 that the pledge was officially adopted by the US government. Bellamy’s original words were meant to instill a sense of patriotism and loyalty to the country, and his legacy continues to be felt today.
