What is the science behind glow-in-the-dark bubbles?

The science behind glow-in-the-dark bubbles is as fascinating as the glow they emit. At the core of this phenomenon lies a compound called phosphorescent pigment. When exposed to light, such as sunlight or artificial light, the pigment absorbs energy and enters an excited state. As the energy is gradually released, it creates a mesmerizing glow.

In the case of glow-in-the-dark bubbles, this pigment is mixed with a bubble solution, allowing the bubbles themselves to emit soft, ethereal light. The duration of the glow is determined by the pigment’s ability to store and slowly release the absorbed energy. To enhance the effect, some glow-in-the-dark bubble solutions may contain additional chemicals or additives that help amplify the glow.
