How to Make This Recipe Step-by-Step

Here’s how to make a charcuterie board that’s beautiful, delicious, and surprisingly effortless.

Start with your cheese—it’s usually one of the largest items on the board. Slice blocks of cheddar, arrange brie wedges, place goat cheese and blue cheese into a small bowl, or leave them open for easy spreading.

Next, fold your salami into ribbons or rose shapes, and tuck your prosciutto into delicate folds. These add both texture and elegance, making your cheese and meat display feel elevated.

Layer in your crackers—both round and oval—around the cheese and meat. Add breadsticks as a vertical element, and scatter pistachios and walnuts into gaps for crunch.

Bring in color and sweetness with red and green grapes, sliced strawberries, and dried apricots. These not only balance the savory flavors but also make the board pop visually.

Finish with olives in a small bowl, a drizzle of honey in a jar or dish, and a few extras, such as rosemary sprigs or edible flowers, if you’d like to garnish.

Assembling Tips for a Beautiful Charcuterie

Making a beautiful charcuterie board is easier than you think. Begin with the board first—position your cheese and meat as your anchors. These are the biggest visual elements and help shape the rest of your layout.

Next, add the largest items, such as fruit or chocolates, and then fill the gaps with smaller items, like grapes, nuts, or extra cubes of cheese.

Using small bowls for sticky things like jam or goat cheese keeps everything tidy and adds height. A mix of colors and textures will give you that Pinterest-worthy, good charcuterie board aesthetic.

Make It a Meal or a Date Night

This small snack board for two is perfect for winding down with a movie or celebrating a special occasion. Pair it with your favorite wine or sparkling drink, and suddenly you’ve got a full experience.

To make it even more filling, add extras like hummus, wraps, or marinated vegetables. Your board will comfortably feed two people and maybe even leave a few bites for later.

Planning Ahead? No Problem!

If you’re short on time, you can make your board ahead of time. Store the cheese and meat in airtight containers in the refrigerator, and assemble everything just before serving. This keeps your cracker selection crisp and your fruit fresh.

Let’s Recap: What to Include on Your Charcuterie Board

To summarize, here are the key items on the board: a variety of cheese (at least two kinds, ideally one soft and one hard), a couple of flavorful meats like salami and prosciutto, and some crunchy crackers.

Add fresh elements like grapes and strawberries, along with dried fruit, pistachios, and walnuts.

Round it out with something salty, like olives in a small bowl, and something sweet, like honey. With this spread, you’re ready to make your small but mighty snack moment shine.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe apricots
  • 12 cracker sticks
  • 8 glazed graham crackers
  • 2 ounces thinly sliced salami
  • 1 ounce mild cheddar cheese
  • 1 ounce truffle cheese
  • 4 small chocolates
  • 4 pecans
  • ⅓ cup fresh raspberries
  • 4 small sprigs fresh mint

Instructions

  1. Cut both cheeses into approximately ½-inch cubes. Divide the cheese evenly among four small boards.
  2. Fold the salami slices in half and overlap them to create loose ribbons. Divide the salami among the four boards and arrange it diagonally through the center.
  3. Place three cracker sticks and two glazed graham crackers on each board.
  4. Cut the apricots in half and remove the pits. Add one apricot half to each board.
  5. Divide the raspberries among the four boards.
  6. Add one chocolate and one pecan to each board.
  7. Garnish each board with a small sprig of mint and serve.

Notes

  • Substitute Gouda, havarti or manchego for the truffle cheese.
  • Use regular chocolates rather than liqueur-filled chocolates when serving children.
  • Add crackers shortly before serving so they remain crisp.
  • Increase the cheese and salami if serving the boards as a meal instead of a light appetizer.
