Today we’re making this Day 5 of Creation Craft for Kids — and it’s one of the most colorful yet! On Day 5, God created the birds of the air and the creatures of the sea, and your kids will love making their own fish and bird crafts (using our free template) as they explore this exciting part of the creation story.

On the fifth day, He commanded the waters to be full of living creatures and the skies to be filled with birds. God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing that moves and swims, and he made every species of birds that fly in the sky.
God saw that it was good. And then — here’s a beautiful detail that children remember so well — God blessed them and told them to be fruitful and multiply. The oceans came alive with creatures, and birds filled the sky with flight. The sea was now alive!

Materials Needed To Make This Bible Craft:
Here’s what you’ll need to pull this together:
- Paper plate (one per child)
- Construction paper (blue, orange, green, pink, yellow & sky blue)
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Black marker or crayon for drawing clouds and labels
That’s it! No tissue paper, no coffee filter, no food coloring, no paper fastener needed. Just simple, classic construction paper and a paper plate. This is truly a simple craft that delivers a big visual payoff.
How to Make a Day 5 of Creation Craft for Kids
Step 1: Prepare Your Ocean Template
Start with your blue construction paper. You’ll need two pieces — one sheet of paper in light blue for the main ocean body, and one in a darker blue for the wave detail on top.
Cut the light blue piece into a half-circle shape (like a big “D” on its side). This represents the lower half of your paper plate — the ocean. Then cut the darker blue piece into a long wavy strip.
This wavy edge will sit right on top of the light blue piece, giving you that beautiful layered ocean look. Glue the wavy strip on top of the light blue half, so the waves peek out at the top.
Now attach this ocean section to the bottom part of the paper plate. The top half of the plate represents the sky — leave it white and open for clouds and birds.
Step 2: Cut Out Your Birds, Fish, and Extras
This is where the magic happens! Cut out:
- Birds — in yellow, pink, and orange paper. Simple rounded body shapes with a little tail work great for preschoolers. These little ones don’t need to be perfect — wobbly birds are charming!
- Fish — orange fish in two or three sizes, plus a bigger blue fish (like a shark shape with a fin). Fish that live in the water are so fun to cut and arrange.
- Seaweed — cut wavy strips of green paper for the ocean floor. These represent the sea plants and really bring the underwater scene to life.
- Clouds — draw cloud outlines on white paper or directly on the plate with a black marker.
Don’t forget: you can use free printable templates if cutting freehand feels overwhelming for your little ones. A free printable with pre-drawn shapes makes this even more accessible for toddlers.
Step 3: Assemble the Scene
Now comes the really satisfying part — putting it all together!
Glue your birds to the upper (sky) portion of the plate. Pink bird up top, orange bird in the middle, yellow bird flying to the right — scatter them around so it looks like birds fly freely across the sky. Draw your cloud outlines around them.
Then fill the water with your sea animals. Nestle the green seaweed on the left side of the ocean area. Place the big blue fish swimming through the middle, and add the smaller orange fish around it. Let kids arrange their sea creatures however they like — there’s no wrong way!
Step 4: Add Your Title Label
Write “Animals of Sea and Air” on a small strip of white paper
and glue it along the bottom of the ocean section.

Instructions
1. Create the Ocean Base
Cut a light blue sheet of paper into a half-circle shape to form the ocean. Then cut a dark blue strip into a wavy line and place it along the top edge of the light blue piece. Glue them together to create a layered water effect. Attach this ocean section to the bottom half of the paper plate.
2. Prepare the Sky Area
Leave the top half of the plate blank to represent the sky. This space will be used for birds and clouds. You can lightly draw cloud shapes using a black marker or crayon if desired.
3. Cut Out the Animals and Sea Plants
Cut simple shapes for birds using yellow, pink, and orange paper. Create fish in different sizes using orange and blue paper. Cut wavy green strips to represent seaweed for the ocean floor. Keep shapes simple so children can easily assemble them.
4. Build the Scene
Glue the birds onto the top half of the plate in different flying positions. Place fish and seaweed inside the ocean area, arranging them freely to create movement and variety. Encourage children to spread the pieces out so the scene feels full and lively.
